Recent Read

It’s 2026, and I’m 15 years late, but The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller had me sobbing in a hotel room recently. Heartbreaking, but so full of heart. A book that instantly became a top-five favorite read of all time. That’s saying something because, well, I only have one other book on that list – Jane Eyre.

I can think of two other books that made me sob like The Song of Achilles did: Dreamland by Sarah Dessen (teenage me was absolutely wrecked by that book) and Me Before You by JoJo Moyes. I’m writing this post during my luteal phase, and I literally had to take a deep, shaky breath to hold back my tears just typing that book’s name. IYKYK.

People ask, “Where were you when X historic event happened?” Another good question is, “Where were you when you read a book that made you cry from the depths of your soul?”

Also, “What’s a book you won’t read because you think it will be an emotional gut punch?”

My answer: One Day by David Nicholls. The movie and the mini-series were enough. More than enough.

Favorites

My favorite movie is, of course, a romcom. The Holiday. An absolutely gorgeous Jude Law. Beautiful English landscapes. Mr. Napkin Head. Gumption. And the score? So wondrously lovely. I listen to it in the bathtub no matter what time of year. 

My favorite book: Jane Eyre. Mystery. Hardship. Passionate romance. To thine own self be true. I read it every year, usually around Christmas.
